

Medical Mission
The Heroes Medical Team
Started in 2009 by Dr. Ross Bethel, M.D. From Yakima, WA, and with the help of the late Bishop Weston and Bishop Violet Gitonga of Nakuru, Kenya, we are a team of health professionals dedicated to partnering with Heroes of the Nation to serve the poorest communities of Central Kenya and promote the health and wellness of families, widows and orphans in that region. Our team is made up of Family Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, General and Specialty Surgeons, Dentists and Oral Surgeons, Women’s Health Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Surgical Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses.
The 2023 Mission Team Leaders include:
Rick Vaughn, M.D. Rick is a Family Practice physician living in Ellensburg, WA with his wife, Jan. Both Rick and Jan regularly travel the globe with various medical mission teams serving the poor. Some of the places they have served include Nepal, Kenya, Haiti, Mexico and Moldova. Rick and Jan continue to sponsor our Heroes graduates pursuing medical and nursing degrees in Kenya.
Peggy McNulty, DrPH. A retired Naval Nurse Practitioner living in Florida, Peggy is a regular team leader who fell in love with Heroes and Kenya in 2009. Peggy along with her husband, Pat, who serves alongside Peggy, are also committed child sponsors. The 2023 mission will be their 5 th medical mission
in Kenya.
Tami McDaniels, RN. Tami is a Registered Nurse living with her family in Arizona and has served as a team leader and organizer since 2009. The 2023 mission will be her 5th to the region. Tami is also a committed child sponsor.
Stacey Hesterly, DDS. Stacey is a retired Dentist living near Seattle, WA. In addition to serving in
Kenya, Stacey and her husband, Scott, have enjoyed many medical missions in Mexico.
